Calibrate wint een ICT gazelle award

Calibrate heeft gisteren in Living Tomorrow de prijs mogen ontvangen als snelste ICT-groeier in Vlaanderen in de categorie kleine bedrijven.
Er zijn voor de allereerste keer negen snelgroeiende Belgische ict-bedrijven bekroond tot ‘ICT Gazellen’.

“De ICT Gazellen bekronen - naar analogie van de gerenommeerde Trends Gazellen - de snelst groeiende ict-bedrijven. Snelgroeiende bedrijven dragen in belangrijke mate bij tot de economische dynamiek van de sector en de regio. Die 'gazellen' zijn krachtbronnen van innovatie en werkgelegenheid. Het zijn vaak inspirerende rolmodellen voor andere bedrijven en verdienen het alleen daarom al om eens in de bloemetjes gezet te worden.”

Calibrate dankt deze award aan een gebalanceerd team van gedreven mensen en een juiste mix van opensource technologie samen met sterke design capaciteiten gebundeld in een stevige projectaanpak waarmee ze zowel kleine als grote projecten aankunnen. Calibrate ported Hansel Breadcrumbs from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7

Hansel (named after Hansel and Gretel) provides custom breadcrumbs which are build by user defined rules. These rules are independent from the menu system. Rules can have logic switches and can add links to the breadcrumbs.

Department "Bestuurszaken" (DBZ) granted Calibrate Drupal 7 website project

The Department of the Policy Administration (Bestuurszaken) is responsible for preparation of policy, managing policy implementation, monitoring / tracking, monitoring and control and policy.

Calibrate will build the website with the new and awesome Drupal 7.

Some Modules to be used : Context, MOLLOM, SOLR Search, TIKA, ...
By using Aegir it will be easy to create new sites with predefined rules and settings.

Reliable Cancer Therapies Launches Global Cancer Therapy Website On Drupal

About the project

Reliable Cancer Therapies launched a global online database (http://www.reliablecancertherapies.com/), based on the leading open source platform Drupal, that provides scientifically verified information on cancer treatments. With this online database, RCT hopes to broaden the reliable treatment options for patients with cancer.

Our Partner Calibrate NV. has created an online database which provides patients and medical professionals with free and qualitative information on cancer, treatments, guidelines and clinical trials” states Lydie Meheus, PhD, executive director of RCT.
“This website is an answer to the growing need for a comprehensive repository of reliable, trustworthy information on cancer treatments and investigational drugs. We give specific, verified information on conventional as well as non-conventional cancer therapies, and we want to focus on the resulting patient outcomes. We hope that this database will help people find their way through overwhelming, confusing and much too often unverified information. However, it should be emphasized that RCT does not provide medical advice and that our website does not replace a medical consultation.”

Goals of the project

Allowing balanced choices

The RCT team is convinced that providing access to the verified information bridges the gap between conventional and non-conventional health care and facilitates their integration. RCT information cited on the website has been screened for evidence, allowing evidence-based treatment choices to be made.

For patients and healthcare professionals

The RCT website provides research-based information in different wordings for patients and their relatives and for professionals so that it can be used to discuss treatment options. The non-professional information is available in English, French, Spanish and Dutch. The website is constantly expanding and updated on a regular basis. Navigation and search allows direct access to the requested topic.

Advisory board

The RCT team is independent and open-minded. International organizations (ESMO, CAM-CANCER, …)collaborate with the challenging effort of getting the best verified data available to the online database. RCT can count on the support of a high level advisory board, composed of renowned members:

If in the course of these investigations, promising new cancer treatments are identified that are lacking support from industry or from institutional organizations, the development of such therapies can be funded. Information about the projects currently supported by RCT is available on the website.

Call for help

Patients or doctors, who want to contribute to the creation of this online knowledge center, can still do so by providing details on their cancer treatment and outcome using the registry form on the RCT website.

World leaders on Drupal

The World Economic Forum (the Forum) has launched their internal collaboration platform on Drupal. The Forum is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders. It is best known for its annual meeting in Davos. Their World Economic Leaders Community (WELCOM) is where they will engage online to address the most pressing business and global challenges.

This means that the world's leaders are now using Drupal! They have just met at Davos where they first took their new collaboration platform to the test.

The Forum turned to Drupal since their existing closed-source solution, developed on top of last generation technologies, was not flexible enough. They wanted to add new features quickly, and their previous system just was not able to do so at their pace. Additionally The Forum's previous platform was a collection of different technologies, while good on their own, resulted in very poor performance for their site. So they turned to the advantages of open source technology, and Drupal, for solutions.

They decided to use Drupal Commons, a pre-configured Drupal distribution for social websites, as the technology platform for their community. Drupal Commons is social business software similar to Jive Software, that integrates groups, discussion forums, blogs, wikis, and events into a single pre-packaged solution. This allowed the Forum to quickly spin up a social collaboration community based off Drupal with the features they needed.

Their previous solution took several years to build, while the Drupal Commons solution was deployed in just several months.

Drupal 7 is a nicer looking, more powerful, and more scalable Drupal. Plus, it's easier to use than previous versions. It's quite a metamorphosis for designers, developers, and administrators. Janssen Pharmaceutica launches new corporate site on Drupal

Calibrate and Buzzberry communication agency created the strategy for the new corporate janssenpharmaceutica.be site. This new site has been setup to support Janssen in these challenging times.

Buzzberry was the principal point of contact and created the online strategy, they clear out the complexity of the content hunt and optimized the online copywriting. Calibrate took care of design and Flash animations. Drupal implementaion was done in India. Calibrate assisted Janssen in establishing the right Drupal architecture and coached the local Project managers.

Dries Buytaert is speaking at the Conference “Lift-off towards Open Government”.

The website www.eutrio.be is made by Calibrate. From 1st July to 31st December 2010, it is Belgium's turn to take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU). This is a real challenge, especially as we now need to take into account the many changes set in place by the Lisbon Treaty since it came into force on 1st December 2009.

Les CPAS réunis contre la pauvreté : www.moi-aussi.be

Le SPP Intégration Sociale organise avec les CPAS réunis une campagne à grande échelle contre la pauvreté et l’exclusion sociale. Une personne pauvre, c’est déjà une de trop. Malheureusement dans notre pays, de nombreuses personnes vivent encore dans la pauvreté. Le slogan de la campagne « Ensemble contre la pauvreté. Moi aussi » invite clairement à œuvrer tous ensemble pour aider les gens qui vivent dans la pauvreté à s’en sortir. Nous souhaitons ainsi sensibiliser le grand public sur la pauvreté structurelle et l’exclusion sociale. Ce faisant, nous entendons souligner le rôle émancipatoire joué par les CPAS, sur le plan curatif comme au niveau préventif.

De verenigde OCMW's tegen armoede : www.ook-ik.be

De POD Maatschappelijke Integratie organiseert samen met de Verenigde OCMW's, een grootschalige campagne tegen de armoede en sociale uitsluiting. Elke persoon in armoede is er één te veel. En jammer genoeg leven er ook in ons land heel wat mensen in armoede. De slogan van de campagne,"Samen tegen armoede. Ik ook.", maakt duidelijk dat we de krachten moeten bundelen om armoede de wereld uit te helpen. We sensibiliseren het grote publiek over structurele armoede en sociale uitsluiting en willen de belangrijke curatieve en preventieve rol van de OCMW's in de kijker plaatsen.

Dries Buytaert receives CIOnet Innovation Award

Dries Buytaert, de oprichter van Drupal, heeft de eerste CIOnet Innovation Award gekregen. Begin volgend jaar moet trouwens Drupal7 klaar zijn.

De opensource cms-oplossing Drupal werd al meer dan 2 miljoen keer gedownload. Het kan rekenen op een actieve community van 1.500 ontwikkelaars die al meer dan 4.500 modulles toegevoegd hebben. Zo zijn er meer dan tien e-commerce modules. "We werken volgens het Darwin-model: de fitste overleeft. De beste module haalt het en muteert op z'n beurt," vertelde Dries Buytaert tijdens het CIOnet event in Brussel. In de marge kondigde hij aan dat begin volgend jaar Drupal7 wordt gelanceerd.

Er draaien vandaag zo'n 400.000 websites op Drupal, waaronder de website van Obama en zopas ook de website van het Belgische koningshuis. "Mag ik me nu ook hofleverancier noemen?", grapte Dries Buytaert.

New MTVNE digitexts are live

Calibrate has launched new, updated versions of the Nickelodeon, TMF and MTV digitexts. MTV Networks now has total control over the content they offer in their respective digitext environments. The new Calibrate Digitext system allows to create contests, live call to actions, manage the digitext content and disable/enable functionalities to the home viewer.
Importantly, this environment is multi platform, which means that all content can be viewed by both Belgacom and Telenet customers. The new Belgacom version will be launched on a later date.
A chat client is integrated into the new TMF digitext, which will become available to the customer in a few days. In the chatrooms, fully manageable by MTV Networks, viewers can discuss the latest TV shows, music, video games and much more.

The White House goes Drupal

De nieuwe website van het Witte Huis draait op Drupal, software van Belgische makelij. Internationaal draaien behoorlijk wat vooraanstaande websites op Drupal. Al is Whitehouse.gov wel een referentie die kan tellen.

Drupal is als openbronsoftware voor webcontentmanagement aan een opmerkelijke opmars bezig. Ook de NAVO, de NASA en de BBC gebruiken Drupal vandaag al voor hun sites. Naast de sites van Greenpeace, Sony, Hillary Clinton en de popsterren Jennifer Lopez en Britney Spears.

SBS Belgium asked Calibrate to deliver a cross platform system, that would allow them to publish content simultaneously to both IDTV and Web platforms. We delivered by offering them a perfect mixed blend of Drupal, custom CMS solutions and the most advanced IDTV platform in Belgium.

Now, SBS Belgium can brand IDTV and web pages, hold cross platform contests and create their own content. A quickmenu allows easy access for the home user. From this menu, other digitext application can be accessed, without any extra loading time or delay.

To give the Essent customers a clear view of the information they need, Calibrate designed a fresh and green look.

Calibrate brings Nickelodeon on Belgacom TV

As Calibrate is THE cross platform provider in Belgium, we also create and maintain applications for the MTV group. Nickelodeon, a childrens’ TV channel, wanted to have a TV environment that is easy to understand for kids while offering valuable content at the same time. We created a beautiful, cross platform capable CMS, which allows Nickelodeon to offer games, VOD content and a crystal clear agenda to the children. As a first, Calibrate now also offers a game on the Belgacom platform.
