1. Do a thorough keyword analysis

When you start with a search engine optimization, we recommend that you start with a keyword analysis. Such an analysis forms the basis of a good online campaign. The keywords are the words that potential customers enter in search engines. This can be one word, but also a combination of words. With a good keyword analysis, you map out all these keywords.

A handy tool is Google Keyword Planner. With this practical tool, setting up new campaigns in the search network or expanding the existing campaign is much easier. You can also use it to retrieve all kinds of statistics, view the potential performance of a keyword list or even create a new keyword list by merging different keyword lists.

2. Use long tail keywords

Keywords are very important. They ensure that people reach your site through search engines. But it is also very important to go into detail with your keywords. When people enter the word 'laptop', they get a lot of search results. People who are really interested in buying your product or service will go into more detail. The brand, model, color... You name it. By using longer, more specific keyword phrases, better known as long tail keywords, you will be better found on more specific terms. For example, if we apply this to the keyword 'laptop', it's better known as 'Apple MacBook Pro Retina 13.3''.

Long tail keywords provide a higher click-through rate because it often concerns a very specific product or subject. This is also quite logical because a visitor knows very specifically what he is looking for. Because long tail keywords have less competition, they are also ranked at the top of the search results more quickly. So it is clear: focusing on long tail keywords is very interesting. They score easier, faster and ensure a higher conversion rate.

3.Integrate keywords

You may notice it after reading the dots above, but keywords should certainly not be underestimated. It is therefore also important to be very consistent with your keywords. Once your keywords are fixed, you can immediately translate them into your URL, headings, title tags and meta descriptions. Also in your texts on your website, try to repeat your keywords as much as possible - without losing the message, of course. If you can repeat your keywords at least 10 times, you are well on schedule!

4. Don't forget your Alt tags

Enough about keywords. Now let's talk about the images on your website and the accompanying alt tags. Many webpages contain images that are used to enhance the content. It's just a pity that Google can only 'read' the text, but not the images. Google doesn't know what the content of this image is. Fortunately, that's why there are alt tags. With these tags you give a description to Google about what your image shows.

But what is a good alt tag? It's best to ask yourself the question: what if the image needs to be replaced by a text? What should I put down, so that it retains the same function? Every image on your website has a purpose. Once you know that purpose, you can easily create an alt tag.

5. Do Linkbuilding

4 down, 1 to go! As a final tip, we would like to emphasize the role of link building. This can be done in two ways: via links on your own website, or via links on other external websites. Let's start with setting up your own site. Use hyperlinks to 'jump' to other pages within your site. You can also use the footer, for example, to collect an overview of different links.

But if a lot of external websites link to your website, Google concludes that you have an important website and you will score much higher in the search results. This is also a very important factor. So be sure to ask your partners if they want to share your link. You can also respond to relevant blog articles and place a link to your website. This also works as link building. So be sure to add your websites to relevant pages, and generate more visitors!
