Diggit's editors need to be able to handle a large amount of content in a simple way, and in the meantime also follow up a complete editing process online, it seemed like a perfect job for the powerful CMS Drupal.

Planning to launch an online platform?
Then you've come to the right place at Calibrate.

Calibrate was commissioned to build Diggit Magazine for the Department of Cultural Studies of Tilburg University, a unique platform for online academic news, information and discussion on (digital) culture, globalisation and art. On Diggit, lecturers, students and everyone connected to Tilburg University can collaborate on a single platform and as one community on a fully-fledged online magazine.

UX & Design

In the preliminary phase, we spent a lot of time working out detailed wireframes that made all functionality visually clear. In this way, we were able to identify any pain points prior to development and follow them up carefully.

The first design exercise was very limited, with only a main page and a detail page. In this way, Diggit was able to make adjustments as and when required. Since the focus at Diggit is on the articles, we strived for a minimalistic and intuitive interface.

Diggit workflow

The Diggit workflow: simple but flexible

Our Calibrators streamlined the editing process, but also gave Diggit Magazine the tools to add new steps and roles to their heart's content, each with their own rights and fields.

This allows Diggit to continuously fine-tune their editing process.

1

Someone wants to make a contribution or is asked to do so.

2

The author can create a paper/article in the Diggit back-end. Others can be invited to collaborate (e.g., in the case of a group project for students) and various rights can be granted.

3

The editor/professor reads, suggests adjustments and provides feedback. Our change tracker makes it easy to keep track of all changes. In the case of a paper, the professor can also give points to the author during this step.

4

After that, another group of (language) students, for example, can read the article on language, structure and structure and (journalism) students can fulfil their role as fact checkers and check the sources, and so on.

5

After final approval, the paper/article will be published in the online magazine.

Ready-made content

Through a far-reaching link with MailChimp we made the boxing of newsletters a little more pleasant. Thanks to our solution, Diggit editors can integrate site content directly into newsletters: a real time saver.

We also chose to keep files on diggitmagazine.com that bundle all files, articles and images on a specific theme in a user-friendly database, ready to use for site visitors. If they wish, they can also dig into the site content by topic. Last but not least, we also provided a fully-fledged Diggit blog, where students and other members of the Diggit community are given a slightly freer stage for their wildest ideas.

I can only say that I am very satisfied with the cooperation with Calibrate. They always make that extra effort to think along with us and to understand where we want to go. Moreover, they always manage to find creative solutions that fit within our budget.
