Protime
Founded in 1995, Protime is the European market leader in time and attendance and workforce management.
Its solutions are used in 40 countries. They have offices in Mechelen (BE), Namur (BE), Paris (FR) and Waddinxveen (NL) and are already thinking about expansion. Today, at the beginning of 2023, they already count more than 400 Protimers.
Challenges
All good songs must come to an end. So it was for Protime. The challenges they faced online came down to 1 issue: an outdated website still running on Drupal 7.
- We decided to upgrade from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9.
- This update also had a second goal: to increase conversion rates and lead generation.
- In addition, the backend of the site was not user-friendly, making content creation, editing, and general site management too difficult for marketing staff.
From Drupal 7 to Drupal 9: more than an update
For Protime, the project was more than just an upgrade from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9. Preliminary research preceded development. Our colleagues at UXMen took care of that.
When developing the new site, we started with our Drupal 9 installation profile.

Most of the content Protime wanted to completely rework and refine in this rebuild, but the old news and blog posts were migrated from the old Drupal 7 site to the new Drupal 9 site. The associated images were imported as media, making them part of the site's media library. We wrote custom scripts for this migration. That way, we took all the work out of Protime's hands and migrated the necessary content fully automatically.
Designed for growth: Website multilingualism
Since Protime has several offices in Europe, all information needs to be available in multiple languages. In Drupal, it is possible to give each page its own translation and even differentiate by country. This also makes the content dynamic: on the Belgian site, for example, you can see a picture of the MAS in Antwerp, while on the Dutch version, the team is shown in front of a bridge in Waddinxveen.
User-friendliness and lead generation
Search has also been upgraded with autocomplete, search suggestions, and an overview of frequently searched terms. This allows Protime's visitors to find exactly what they are looking for more quickly and avoid wasting time. This also fits in with Protime's mission to get time under control.
Protime also uses Pardot. Pardot is a B2B marketing automation package that is part of Salesforce. With this tool, Protime's marketing teams can generate leads for sales to follow up on. This is based on the forms on the website. We provided new templates in Pardot and a solution to easily add them to the website.

Results
What started out as a typical Drupal 7 to 9 story ended up with a new website that is worth seeing. A site that is up to date, optimized for UX, and easy for the marketing team to maintain. New landing pages, blogs, and news are posted to the site at lightning speed, allowing the team to stay on the cutting edge and continue to generate leads. Explore the new site at protime.eu.
To further support the marketers, our colleagues at Ambitious have created a co-marketing track with a data analysis and research track. Because a website can always do better.
And after 9 comes 10. Soon we will be working with Protime to see how we can take advantage of the many benefits of Drupal 10. Curious about what Drupal 10 can do for you?
