University College UCLL - or University Colleges Leuven-Limburg in full - offers thirty professional bachelor's programmes on ten different campuses in Limburg and Flemish Brabant. With more than 14,500 students and 1,700 employees, the university college is also one of the largest providers of higher education in Flanders. It is UCLL's ambition to offer the strongest programmes in Flanders within an international profile, all while maintaining a strong connection with KU Leuven.

Having previously played an advisory and technical role with Calibrate when the UCLL intranet system had to be set up, this time we were given the task of overhauling their public website. We started from scratch and completely rebuilt the site, thanks to our good friend Drupal 7. We opted for a fast and efficient way of working thanks to sprints. The various project staff members came together to work on the new website as a group. In this way, everyone was immediately up to date with the latest changes and developments, and everyone could do their bit in the process.

Thanks to a clear structure, reusable components and a flexible structure of pages, the new website is very user-friendly and clear. The focus is also on the content. The most important thing is that all information is clearly displayed. No effort is spared: all your possible questions will be answered.

We built up the administrator authentication of UCLL's new website via the single sign-on system Shibboleth. As a result, UCLL itself decides which persons have individual access to the online resources. In addition, certain rights can also be managed or edited per individual page. Each editor has its own unique profile. In this way UCLL can decide who is allowed to edit which pages or not. We arranged the hosting of the website at UCLL via Docker Setup, before the deployment we worked via Jenkins.

The site also displays the UCLL vacancies published on Jobat. We got this cold trick done by means of an embed in Javascript. In addition, a good search function is also very important for an extensive website with many pages, such as that of UCLL. That is why we opted for a search function with Solr. This is a powerful and very fast search engine, which enables users to easily and quickly search for the information they are looking for. Except for the answers to exam questions, which we haven't put on the website.
