The project started with our fellow designers at UXMen. They designed the appropriate designs that fit the vision and atmosphere of Visit Limburg. Here it was important that the design of the new functionalities be in line with the then existing website.
Tourism web platform for province of Limburg
Visit Limburg is a web platform that gathers all tourist information for anyone planning a trip in the province of Limburg. On the website you can not only find inspiration for fun activities, but also book overnight stays, read blog articles and organize meetings and incentives in the context of business tourism.
Design
Development in Drupal 9
After approval of the designs by the Visit Limburg team, we started the project with an upgrade: From Drupal 8 to Drupal 9.
In addition to this update, we added an additional section with a focus on Business Tourism. Someone looking for event spaces or accommodations for meetings needs specific information. Therefore, within this segment you have the ability to see the capacity of meeting rooms or hotel rooms of all accommodations. Moreover, we list all the facilities of the venues, such as air conditioning, beamers or a beautiful location in the greenery.
Traveling in Limburg
Apart from an update to Drupal 9 and the additional Business Tourism section, we also added a lot of new functionalities. Visit Limburg was requesting a customer portal. They want users to be able to log in to organize their own trip. Once logged into the platform, you can indicate your favorite activities or accommodations while browsing. With that list, you then quickly map out your trip, which you can also plot on a map and immediately link to bicycle junctions.
If you prefer to work the other way around, that's possible too! Some users prefer to start from a cycling route of which they have saved the nodes. Such routes can be uploaded to the platform which indicates restaurants and activities along the way.
So on Visit Limburg you can easily plan entire day or weekend trips.
Revolution of the search function
To optimize the search function, we further expanded the function using complex facets. On the previous website, you could filter a search only by activities, lodging and location. So you either got a list of all activities, all overnight stays or everything there is to do at a specific location. Since our development, you can now filter by activity type, such as biking, hiking, culture or adventure. And also for overnight stays, you now play more with your preferences. Do you want to be all hostels, or are you more for the comfort of a hotel or B&B?
With Visit Limburg, your trip is booked in no time.
This extension to their existing platform has allowed them to integrate an additional target audience on their web platform. Namely business tourism now has its own spot in the main navigation which ensures that this specific content cannot be found easily. Then we really optimized the search experience for routes, the bicycle map is integrated with accommodations, activities and so on, so tourists who want to come to the Limburg region can plan their entire day trip. In addition, Visit Limburg does not have to be inferior to airbnb. They too now have the possibility to compose your trips on your account. We at Calibrate can say that we have really gone to a total experience here for the different visitors online but also offline. The road between planning your vacation and actually starting your vacation has become shorter.
